Port Arthur s Alli Gator will encourage summer travelers to be aware and have fun at the fifth annual Orange Means Safety event. Stop by the Texas Travel Information Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, June 6, before hitting the road this season.
Sparky the Fire Dog, the Shangri La owl, Crash Dummies from Texas Department of Transportation, games and refreshments will be part of the day. Expect information from law enforcers on child safety seats, a shootout from the Big Thicket Outlaws and tips for identity theft protection.
We do this to remind families to be safe as they gear up to go on vacation, Becky Barker, cake showcase manager of the center, said. Most vacations involve driving or flying, water and animals. We re just wanting to be safe. When you don t know things, sometimes you don t make real smart decisions.
Barker said the center welcomes an average of 600,000 visitors a year to Texas, Barker cake showcase said. It features brochures on Texas attractions, parks and more, as well as a board walk through the swamp that usually includes alligator sightings.
